Mamie Virginia (Peoples) Staton was born on Sunday, December 5, 1937 to the late
Grandison Peoples, Jr. & Larlie Hinton Peoples in Halifax County, North Carolina. After
a life devoted to FAITH, FAMILY and SERVICE, she peacefully departed this earthly
life and transitioned into eternal rest on Friday, January 2, 2026.
Mamie, along with her beloved parents was preceded in death by one son, Ernest
Lee Staton; four brothers, William Hines, Johnny Hines, Walter Edward Peoples and
Grandison Peoples III; two grandsons, Quanteds’ Andrews & Bruce Staton, Jr.; and
one great-grandson, Traveon Bullock.
Mamie was employed with Black & Decker of Tarboro, NC for twenty-four years
where she worked as a mold operator. Her strong work ethics and dedication were
evident both on the job and in every aspect of her life. She made countless sacrifices
for her family, proudly serving as the matriarch who held her family together with
forte, wisdom and unconditional love.
Mamie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord & Savior. She united with The Gethsemane
G. Holy Church of Battleboro, North Carolina under the leadership of the late Elder
Joesph H. Dickens. She was a faithful and devoted member who loved her church
family and serving diligently as a Senior Usher for many years.
Mamie was the heart of her family - a woman of quiet strength, deep love, and selfless
devotion. She instilled in her family the values of faith, hard work and perseverance
leaving a legacy that will endure for generations. She will be greatly missed and
fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched in her own special way.
Mamie leaves to cherish her memory her children; James Staton (Gwendolyn), Mamie
Staton, Milton Staton, Cynthia Andrews and Bruce Staton; one sister-in-law, Cathy
Peoples; a large host of grand & great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren
and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relative and friends.
